Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award 2011

Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award (IYBA) is a scheme to identify and nurture outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas and desire to pursue research in frontier areas of biotechnology.

Award: Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award (IYBA)

Duration of the project: 3 years (Research may be extendable to 2-3 years to a maximum period of 5 years)

Fellowship: Rs.25, 000/- per month will be admissible for awardees who do not have a regular employment or are not drawing any other fellowship. Awardees having a regular employment will receive a cash award of Rs.1, 00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Only) every year during the course of the project in addition to the equipment and other recurring grants except the fellowship amount.

Age: 35 years

Age relaxation: 5 years would be given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC, Women and Physically Handicapped Category

Eligibility: Excellent academic career, publications in high impact journals and/or invented technologies supported by Indian/ international patents.  The proposed research project should clearly reflect the innovative thinking and execution capabilities of the applicant.

Minimum eligibility criteria:

• First Class grades in examination (in all subjects) from graduate level onwards.
• Cumulative publication impact factor of 10 OR Cumulative publication impact factor of 5 with two published Indian Patents or one International patent.
• Ph.D. in any branch of life sciences including Medicine, Veterinary Sciences, Pharmacy, Agricultural Sciences, and engineering sciences. Master degree in Medicine, Engineering/Technology is also eligible to apply.

Selection process: The aplications received from eligible candidates are reviewed by an expert committee for selection of IYBA on the basis of their career profile, distinctions, publicpations, patents, innovative thinking, scientific originality of the project and the detailed scientific comments. First 15 eligible applicants are invited for making a presentation in support of their candidature. Award is given on the basis of recommendation of the expert committee.
